Was in the Comm Center with HQCo 4th Marines from April till about Oct 1968. Went to FB Fuller with split command group and did the "Rockcrusher 10A" (one zero alpha) gig for a while...running classified info out to all the outlying units...then out to Ca Lu before the move to VCB. Saw my share of rockets at Carroll, and a bit other places as well. Glad to see a page for the Comm Plt. Semper Fi

Stoney here,

I want to thank all for stopping by and posting on the Guestbook and want to apologize to any and all that I haven't responded to. Life is hectic and it’s been an upand down year for me so far. I have lots going on and have kind of put this Web Site on the back burner lately, please don’t let that stop any one from posting or trying to get in-touch with me.
I check this and my e-mail often but don’t always reply in a timely manner (that’s me).
But all in all the Web site is still a great beginning and it will keep growing as I have time. If you have any thing you want to contribute put it out here on the Guestbook or send it to me at my e-mail address, (photos, stories, comments, etc.) I’ll get to it, I might be slow but just keep bugging me and I’ll reply to it or e-mailyou sooner or later.

Once again thanks to all who have stopped by, thanks for your service, answers or questions and Semper Fi fellow Marines, comrades in arms, friends and families.

Owner, Webmaster or just plain old me, Stoney

JR Munoz:
Hey Stoney

Great Rough Rider pics. Appreciate you finding some time for that section. I know many of us remember that Route 9!!

Good job!!

Tony Mastriani:
Stoney,
Thanks for the convoy photos. I made the trip several times between Stud and Dong Ha. I feel like I should remember the scenery but I don't. It was only forty years ago after all!

I was in Scout Snipers and made the move from Evans to Carrol. I was the NCOIC of the 12 snipers that was on Mikes Hill. All my guys came through, a large time was had by all. I have some photos from Carrol if you want them. Thanks for the web site. It is good to remember.

Respectfully;

MOTO

JR Munoz:
Dan;

Do you recall or remember a Joe Rodriguez?? I knew his spotter too but his name eludes me. Joe was a good friend of mine. He was in Scout Snipers with 4th Marines at Carroll. All pictures are welcomed. You can forward them to Stoney by email if you would like.

Good hearing from you.

SF

Looking for anyone who might have known my dad, Kelmer "Bud" McCoy Morrow. He served in Vietnam 66-68. He was in second batallion, 4th Marines. I have pictures of him at Camp Evans in July of 67. I have pictures of Donnie Kimball, Bill "Granny" Granstaff and someone with the nickname of "Lucy". I also have correspondence from Frank Erwin, Chas Awkermann, Marvin "Sonny" Minger and Major General Walter Boomer. I am looking for anyone who can give me information about my dad that he could never share while he was alive. Thank you

QUESTION FOR THE RADIO RELAY COMM GUYS. ARE YOU THE ONES THAT SET UP IN FRONT OF MY BUNKER AT LZ STUD/VANDERGRIFT COMBAT BASE? IF YOU ARE THE SAME GUYS YOU WILL REMEMBER I WOULD GET OFF MY SHIFT AT THE TASK FORCE HOTEL COMMAND BUNKER AT 0200 AND WAKE YOU GUYS UP SO WE COULD DRINK BEER AND PLAY POKER THE REST OF THE NIGHT. SHOOT ME AN E-MAIL IF YOU ARE THOSE GUYS. SMOKEY

Tony Mastriani:
Smokey,
Are you referring to a TRC-97 shot more or less at the same elevation as the command bunker? If so, there was a mix of 3rd Div Comm and 5th Comm guys on the shot. I remember a guy named Glenn who was there after I left. The shot was originally on the other side of Rt 9. If you haven't already done so, check the LZ Stud/VCB section in the website.
Tony Mastriani

Tony Mastriani:
Smokey,
I believe the outfit you refer to is 7th Comm. I was going through my Internet correspondence and found photos of LZ Vandegrift sent to me by Charlie Oldani. You are in one of the photos, with Charlie and others. If inteested, let me know and I'll provide Charlie's email address.

Was stationed at Camp Carroll from July, 1968 until the closing and move to Dong Ha. I served with Stan Denney (previous guest book signer). Both of us would enjoy hearing from anyone that served with 1/12, HQ or any other battery.
